What We Paddle

We paddle single-person, two-person, six-person, and twelve-person boats. We paddle both recreationally and in competition. We practice Downtown Oakville, on Sixteen Mile Creek and on Lake Ontario.

Double Hull V12 Outrigger Canoe

V12 Outrigger Canoe – Our most stable craft has two 6-person hulls rigged together providing a secure platform for paddling on the river and on Lake Ontario. They are used through all our programs from Summer Camps through to our Kupuna program. Due to its stability, the V12 is also used for our accessible programs, including our own PaddleAll, a program for people with different abilities.

OC6 Outrigger Canoe

OC6 Outrigger Canoe – This boat is a traditional Polynesian outrigger canoe. This six-person single hull canoe is balanced by an ama (an outrigger float). We have lightweight Unlimited outrigger canoes (under 100kg) and standard spec class (200kg) outrigger canoes. OC6 are typically used for longer distance racing or recreationally exploring the lake or river. They are designed to move by the sweat of the paddlers while taking advantage of the added push when harnessing wave energy.

OC2 Outrigger Canoe

OC2 Outrigger Canoe – This craft takes two paddlers in a single hull with an ama on one side for stability. The OC2 canoe has a rudder for turning agility and is paddled like all outriggers, with a single blade, bent-shaft paddle.

OC1 Outrigger Canoe

OC1 Outrigger Canoe – This is a single-paddler craft rigged with an ama on one side for stability. The OC1 canoe has a rudder for turning agility and is paddled like all outriggers, with a single blade, bent-shaft paddle.

SUP

Stand-Up Paddleboard, a.k.a. SUP – The club offers a variety of recreational and racing paddleboards; a recreational SUP is suitable for a beginner in calmer waters, a racing SUP is for more challenging conditions. Stability is determined by the hull shape, width, and size.

Surfski

Surfski – this is an ocean going sit-on-top kayak, using a double-ended kayak wing-blade (paddle). The club has a variety of one-person and two-person surfskis. A beginner generally starts in smoother waters with a wider surfski, while a more advanced paddler may take on bigger waves and rougher waters, enjoyed in a sleeker surfski.
